The Township, located in the heart of Union County, was incorporated in 1871, formed from portions of the Townships of Clark, Linden, Springfield, Union and Westfield. Through the years the business district and neighborhoods sprang up around the train station and the Rahway River. Today, the downtown, the river, and the train station remain valued amenities to more than 24,000 residents in the four square mile township.

Established in 1871, Cranford is 4.8 square miles of wonderful neighborhoods and historic homes along the Rahway River, some dating back to the late 1800s. Township residents and visitors, young and old, can enjoy the many programs at Community Center, Public Library, parks, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools or canoeing on the river.
